Monday again?

Let’s go back to Sunday..or at least reminisce on Sunday.

This past weekend I went back home to visit my parents and prep for the holiday and a fun little party I’m throwing this weekend. Steve and I also took a trip to our favorite pumpkin patch and although our car was way too packed to fit a pumpkin we did manage to grab a few apples to make an apple pie. (Any good recipes anyone?)

Crafting, pumpkin patches, apple picking..what else could you want for the perfect fall weekend?

Maybe for it to still be Saturday. Or better yet, Friday. Let’s go back to Friday.

Before heading home for the weekend, I took a little trip to Best Buy to get my camera looked at. And when that little trip turned  into a large impulse purchase of a new lens, well let’s just say I’m not complaining.

After a weekend of shooting everything in site, I wanted to share a few of my simple photo tricks that I’ve learned over the past few years to help improve your everyday photos. Whether you’re shooting your grandparents at the family holiday party or doing a photo shoot for a website, these couple, quick and easy tricks will make the biggest difference on your photos.

1. Lighting: Lighting is key for photos and depending upon what you’re shooting there are two simple little tricks to making your photos perfectly lit. When shooting people, have your subjects stand in the shade and try to avoid direct reflection of the sun. The sun should be behind the photographer and not your subject. If you are shooting an object, use a white poster board to bounce back light on your subject. Place it behind the object and in the direction of the sunlight to create a well lit object.

2. Focus: Whether using an iphone or a DSLR, always make sure to focus your subject. On your iphone tap the object you would like in focus before shooting and for a DSLR, choose your focus in stead of autofocus and click down once to focus before taking the shot. Also on a DSLR make sure your AV is large enough to get your whole subject in focus.

3. Edit: Editing is probably my favorite part. A photo can be completely transformed when editing the right way. A few things I always edit in my photos are: highlights, warmth, shadows, brightness, contrast and sharpen. Just a little tweak of each of these to really help your photo pop off the screen. I edit directly on my iphone using the Pic-Tap-Go app or on my computer using lightroom.
