Dash of Sparkle: Healthy Lifestyle

Happy Monday, hope everyone had a nice weekend! What do you think of the new site so far? I’ll admit I’m pretty obsessed with the work by White Oak Creative and have to hand it to that girl for being the web design guru my site needed.

If you’re following this blog you’re probably all about the DIY, it may just be your number one searched word on google. No judgement here, I’m right there with ya girl.

While we all love a little DIY or maybe a lot, I’ve come to realize sometimes it’s best to just ask for help instead of over-committing ourselves into a no sleep, pb&j sandwiches on the go and dry shampoo as our new best friend routine.

We’ve all been there. Or at least I’d like to think I’m not alone. Just nod your head and act like you’ve been there with me.

Ok great, now that we’re on the same page. Let’s talk.

We want to do it all, trust me I know, but we also want to be healthy and fit while juggling our crazy schedules and to-do lists.  I’m sharing my top 5 tips of staying healthy during the crazy busy months of the holidays and project overload.

1. Move Everyday: Whether it’s an hour at the gym or a taking the stairs instead of the elevator, being active each day is a small step to relieving stress (#1 reason most people gain weight) and getting the heart pumping. It doesn’t always have to be a sweat sesh at the gym to the point that you’re sore the next day, even a quick at home workout is better than being a netflix couch potato.

2. Small Changes: With holiday celebrations and constant eating out, it’s hard to stay healthy without being the person at dinner who asked for a salad with dressing on the side and nothing but kale lettuce. We don’t always have to be 100% healthy, but small changes such as no bacon or cheese, sub white bread for wheat, no butter on the vegetables, can make a big difference. I’m talking hundreds of calories difference.

3. Keep Track: I know we’ve all heard don’t count your calories and I agree, but just writing down what you eat each day and your activity can really help make you aware of what you are doing to your body that you may not event realize. I’m not saying keep a calorie list, but more of a wow I ate pancakes for breakfast and had 3 snacks before lunch kind of realization. A note on your phone or a small notepad in your purse is perfect for keeping track on the go.

4. No Excuses: This is the hardest one for me when juggling a full time job with an event heavy schedule, the blog, a few side free lance gigs and having a social life/spending time with my family and boyfriend. It seems like I always have a reason to not have time to go to the gym or have a healthy dinner, but the truth is if I have time to sit on the couch and catch up on social media, I have time to give to myself to make a healthy meal or break a good sweat. What’s 30 minutes burning off that glass of wine you had last night anyways?

5. Work for It, It Takes Time: We all want immediate results and good ones at that. Anyone can give up or quit, but not everyone can power through it to get the results they want. Whether that’s a relaxed mind or some killer abs, everything is achievable if you’re willing to work for it.

Any other tips you use to stay healthy when on-the-go? Always looks for new ones to share and try!
