Every morning I stand in front of my closet for about 5 minutes debating what I want to wear that day. Do I have any meetings I should look professional for? Am I working an event that I should be dressed up for or will I be sitting at my desk all day and want to be as comfy as possible?
These questions used to be what added those few extra minutes into my morning routine, but now it’s more a matter of: Can I wear this in the snow? Will I be warm under my coat? What shoes will go with that so my ankles don’t show?
I thought it was hard enough trying to match my outfit to my day when I am still half asleep, but matching it to these temperatures is a whole new level.
Actually one of my girlfriends who recently moved to the city, called me the other day and said “Hey Meg, do people here wear coats to the bars when they go out?”. I had to laugh as I remember the days in college when we thought we were invincible not wearing our coats over our dresses to the bars. But yes, people wear coats, gloves, hats, scarves, ski masks…ok I may be getting carried away but they bundle alright.
While wearing winter gear is great, what you wear under is just as important. Something warm, easy to wear under layers and able to maneuver through the snow in. I have been living in cotton dresses with tights, over sized scarfs and ankle boots lately. This black midi is only of my favorites. I actually wore it like this to work the other day for meetings and then switched the scarf for a necklace and the boots and tights for heels to dress it up for a formal event. Nobody would have ever guessed it was just a basic cotton dress from the sale rack at Gap;)
