Home Tour – Den and Dining Room

If only the holiday breaks never had to end. Wouldn’t that be a dream? I’m back home after a fun filled week of celebrating Thanksgiving and am wasting no time getting ready for the next holiday. I always go back to my hometown to celebrate the holidays so struggle with the idea of decorating when I won’t be there to actually enjoy it with friends and family, but something about decorating a new space has me so excited this year!

This month marks a little over two months in the new space and it already feels so much like home. It’s crazy to think how much a little decor and furniture added to a space can make it feel like your own. Luckily since we about doubled in size (square footage wise) and had no idea where to start with getting new things, Havenly came to the rescue and helped us design our den and living room (will share more on that space in the future) to create the perfect spaces that show our personality and make it feel like home. Plus, since we are in another rental we wanted to make sure we got pieces that were pretty universal for any space since we know this is not our last and Havenly helped us do exactly that.

So without further ado, welcome to our new home! Sharing the first look of my two favorite spaces aka spaces we did not previously have so I was super excited to move in and start setting them up.

As you can see we fell in love with the apartment as it was as far as paint color and molding so didn’t have to change anything there but definitely needed some help making the space our own. Not to mention filling it, since we quickly realized all of our old furniture barely filled one room in the new apartment.

First up the dining room, my favorite space in the house. When looking at spaces, having a separate dining space was a must and when I saw this one with two huge windows and a space for a light fixture, I fell in love. Luckily just a few small tweaks to this space quickly made it my own.

I started by switching out the light with this Martha Stewart at Wayfair light that I felt really brought the space together compared to the old vintage light that was there when we moved in. Then since it is a rental I really wanted to add a pop to the wall without adding too many more holes in the walls so when I came across this removable wallpaper by Tempaper it was the perfect solution. It’s basically like a giant sticker for your wall. Super easy to install, just need an exacto blade and squeegee. They have step by step tutorial videos on their website that I found to be very helpful but the best part is if you do mess up you can pull it down and re-stick it. I will admit that middle piece was re-stuck about four times but you would never know it.

Lastly, I added some fun pieces to the space for a final touch. I found this chest on Wayfair and fell in love. I placed the record player I got Steve for his birthday on it and these glasses and decanter by Twist & Tumbler with matching drink stirrers that are so fun and compliment the chest well. I also decided against window treatments in the space as I love all the natural light it gets and wanted to warm the space up with some cozy slipcover chairs instead. I swore I wouldn’t buy anything form ikea this time but I searched high and low for slipcover chairs and for the price, these were hard to beat. They also are machine washable so you easily clean up any spill. I coated mine in scotchguard too just to be safe.

Next up, the den. A space that I was so excited to finally have! While I do have a day job where I sit at a desk all day, I also do all my blog and Bon Aprontit work from home and needed a space where I could not only be productive but also not feel as if I’m still at the office. So thanks to Havenly, they helped me create the perfect space to feel at home but still able to be productive. They even utilized some pieces from my old space, which was a plus since moving and redecorating can quickly get expensive so anywhere I can re-use pieces I was in! Here was the initial design by Havenly.

One of my favorite pieces in this space is this chair from Martha Stewart at Wayfair. For the past few years when I have worked from home, it’s been from my couch so I knew transitioning from my big comfy couch to an office would be tricky so adding this comfy, oversized desk chair was the perfect touch.
