How to Host a Last Minute Mother’s Day Brunch

Did someone say May? Holy cannoli, where is the time going?

Time may be flying by, but I am so excited it’s May! May is one of my favorite month’s of the year. It’s the first month I convince myself that no matter what my weather app says I’m wearing a dress (w/o tights) and it’s Mother’s Day, one of my all-time favorite holidays!

For many of you who have been following along for awhile, you may know that the past year and a half was a long one for my family and I. (This is a happy post though, so don’t worry only positive news ahead.) My mom was diagnosed in November 2017 with breast cancer. Over the past year and a half she completed six months of chemo-therapy and underwent two major surgeries. Little to say, she kicked cancer’s a**! Pardon my french. This Mother’s Day is an extra special one for us as we’re not only celebrating her being a strong, loving mother but also officially being cancer-free because let’s be honest, we can never celebrate that enough!

Since I won’t be traveling back home for Mother’s Day this year, I decided to surprise my mom a few weekends ago when she was visiting with an early Mother’s Day celebration. With a day job and it being busy season for Bon Aprontit, I knew I had to make it one that could be thrown together in a pinch. One that involved little to no errand running beforehand, but still looked impressive and tasted like I was in the kitchen all week prepping. Now normally I would have had it all setup to surprise her but since I live out of town and she was sleeping on an air mattress in my family room it made it a little tricky to sneak around. Plus, she smelled the bacon and immediately jumped up to help. We had so much fun creating this quick and easy Mother’s Day brunch together and to be fair, I have to give her most of the credit for setting the table since I learned from the best hostesses around. Thanks to Martha & Marley Spoon, we were able to throw this together quickly so we had more time to catch up and enjoy our morning together.

Now it’s time to show you how you can host a Mother’s Day brunch with a few quick and easy steps that will be sure to impress your mom this holiday! The best part? Not many of them involve leaving your couch, just a few clicks on the computer and everything will arrive at your doorstep in no time.

And yes, someone thought they needed to be in the photos. I swear this pup knows when a camera comes out that it’s her cue to smile.

The Menu

Bacon and Asparagus Crustless Quiche

Side Salad (I made the Tarragon Vinigarette salad included in the Marley Spoon meal kit, but also love this one as a go-to)

Chocolate Chip Muffins

Fresh Berries (strawberries, blueberries and blackberries)

I loved how quick and easy the Martha & Marley Spoon meal delivery made prepping for my guests. All the ingredients arrived the night before pre-measured and ready to go for me to toss in the oven the morning of. Not to mention the quiche was to die for!

The Table Setting

Fresh Roses

Floral Plates

Linen Napkins

Drinkware

Gold Silverware

Servingware (bowl and platter)

Chargers (found these at my local dollar store, similar here)

A fun way to add a personalized touch is to print some of your favorite pictures with your mom or quotes and have them framed to use as part of the centerpiece.

These roses made for the perfect centerpiece, adding a little touch of pink. With the Martha Stewart x Bloomysbox roses, you can arrange for them to arrive right before your event so you only need to trim the bottoms to fit in your vase and add water. I recommend ordering them a few days ahead of time as I found the roses bloomed beautifully on days two and three.

I also can’t get enough of these floral dishes! I love how they quickly dressed up my simple table setting by adding a little pop of a color and print. My mom loved them so much she asked if she could take them home!

The Drinks

Nothing says Mother’s Day like a little rosé, here’s my top rose cocktails to serve up with your party!

Rose Champagne Cocktail

Rose Spring Cocktail

Rose French 75

When it comes to brunch cocktails you never can go wrong with bubbles or rosé. For this brunch, I used the Martha Stewart Wine Co service to order my favorite bottles of rose (also love this sparkling version) to arrive ready to be mixed with a few additional ingredients before guests arrived.
