I’m back and ready to blow the socks off this new year!
New year, new goals, new resolutions, new dog…sorry, wishful thinking over here.
Anyways it’s time to pull out that list you made a few days ago. Don’t deny it, we all know we have that list we make every year of the resolutions we plan to stand by this year. Some new, some repeats off last year’s list that didn’t happen and some that get re-written every year because they always seem to just fall through the cracks. Did you know only 8% of Americans actually achieve their resolutions anyways?
Was hoping that would make you feel better, no? Oh well, moving on.
Go to the gym everyday, make more money, eat healthier, travel more, stress less…
Sound familiar?
Ok now take that list and toss it in the trash. This is no drill people, this is real life. Slam dunk that thing into the trash can like you’re Michael Jordan.
She shoots, she scores!
Now take out a new piece of paper and get ready to write down your new resolutions that won’t need to be re-written next year because by reading this post you’re already knocking off one of them;)
Ok 2016, let’s do this!

Don’t Think, Just Do. One of the number one reasons all resolutions fail is because we think too much about what we need or want to do and don’t actually do it. I recently finished the book #GIRLBOSS (Yes, that one I started over the summer and somehow forgot about it after the move), but one of the biggest takeaways was that she didn’t have the answers to everything before starting her company, she just did it and learnt along the way. So no need to research the best ab workouts or plan out every healthy meal, just take each day as it comes and you’ll learn the best ways to attack your goals along the way.
Learn Something New Everyday. Look you can already check this one off. You just learnt that only 8% of Americans actually keep their resolutions (and that I fell in that 92%, added bonus). This one will be the most rewording and easiest one you can achieve, because it comes naturally with resolution one. Something as simple as watching the TODAY show in the morning to learn the latest trending news to reading a magazine that talks about the best health tips. Learning little tips, tricks and fun facts each day will help you achieve your goals because most likely you’ll learn things that are slowly working towards your ending goals without even realizing it. Fun fact: consciously learning that only 8% achieve their goals secretly just motivated you more to be part of that 8%;) See, you’re already on the right track.
Be in the Moment. This is my number one resolution this year, being present in the moment that is happening right now. With an event planning job and the blog, I find myself always planning ahead and thinking “what’s next?”. Even when grabbing drinks with friends who I hadn’t seen in months, I found my mind racing with deadlines, blog post ideas, stress about how I was going to get everything done..the crazy thoughts go on and on. Meanwhile, my friend is telling me about her promotion and I totally missed the moment to be excited with her…fail. So no more thinking about next month, next week or heck even the next hour, time to think about now and enjoy what’s happening in front of you because you never know what you’ll miss.
Give a Smile. To your community, your family, your co-worker or the random guy on the subway. We all have 50 million things going on and are usually feeling like a hamster stuck on a spinning wheel going nowhere but a small gesture can make the world of difference to someone. Through volunteering in your community to complimenting a co-worker on a job well done, each kind gesture and support for others matters. One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned from blogging is how much a nice comment or a fellow blogger’s support can motivate me to keep going and bring a smile to my face. In case I’ve lost you by now, just remember little gestures, make big positive differences.
Do You. Most importantly in between all the resolution making and the goal setting, remember to do you. Take time for yourself, laugh a lot, learn from mistakes, have one too many glasses of wine with friends and don’t worry about what everyone else is doing because at the end of the day the only thing that matters is that you’re doing what makes you happy. So don’t take life too serious and always remember how freaking AWESOME you are!
Woah, that was a long post. You still with me? Maybe I’ll add that to my blog resolutions, write more long posts..don’t worry only kidding.
