Spring Training & a GIVEAWAY

Growing up I would say I always had a pretty healthy lifestyle. My family always ate pretty healthy in terms of a meat, vegetable and carb at every meal and stayed very active between outdoor activities in the backyard and school sports. Luckily I continued these habits throughout the years and even kicked them up a notch as far as getting my parents on a little better diet. Such as whole wheat carbs, natural peanut butter, greek yogurt and so on. My dad would like to call it the “dirt”diet because he says it all tastes like dirt but it’s the littlest changes that make for the biggest results and if it keeps him around for a few more years way down the road then I’ll listen to his complaining everyday. I’ll admit I did try to trick him one time when he asked for brownies and I made black bean brownies that really did taste like dirt…opps

I know I’m always posting dessert recipes or like I mentioned on Monday, instagraming pictures of sweets but luckily I really enjoy working out and try to eat healthy for the majority of my meals to counteract my sweet indulgences. Sometimes though between work, the blog, a social life and a long distance relationship, I find myself a little off track aka the person at the gym on her phone trying to catch up with people or e-mails while running. I’m lucky I haven’t face planted off a treadmill yet..that would be a site.

Anyways with summer around the corner and my Cancun trip only a month away I figured a little training program may be in order. I can turn my mind off and put distractions away while someone else kicks my butt in shape. Bikini season here we come!

If you’re looking for a workout program to get you bikini ready, check out some of my favorites below and guess what? There’s a GIVEAWAY too! One luck winner who likes my instagram photo posted today will win one free pass to FlyWheel!

Spring Workout Programs

1. Local 5k or Half-Marathon Training
Spring is the perfect time to start truing for a race in your city. Whether you’re looking to do a 5k or go the extra miles for a half-marathon, here are a few of my favorite running guides to follow; 5k, 10k and half-marathon. Another great part about local races is giving back to the community. Most races benefit a local charity or cause, which is always a great reason to run! I’ve teamed up with the lovely ladies of Lux & Concord to help raise money for their walk with SELF magazine in the AVON 39 Walk to End Breast Cancer. Find out how you can support their walk here
2. FlyWheel Challenge
If running isn’t your cup of tea, the FlyWheel Challenge may be your new best friend. If you are in the Chicago area the program kicks off April 20, if not check your local Flywheel for kick off dates. The challenge consists of 4 classes per week / 16 classes total and includes optional weekly weigh-ins with a designated Flywheel Coach. The challenge begins with a kick-off event including a nutritional seminar and a Flywheel technique workshop that addresses proper bike set-up, positioning, arms and more to make sure you get the most out of your workout. You can find out more information here
3. SELF’s Summer Challenge
Incase you haven’t heard of her yet, Kayla Itsines is pretty much my latest fitness obsession. This girl rocks a 6 pack and confidence like no other! When I heard she was teaming up with SELF magazine for their Summer Challenge, I was sold immediately. I recently started her Bikini Body Guide and am hooked. The Challenge doesn’t begin until May, but stay tune for more details here. In the meantime, check out her instagram for some amazing inspiring before and after pics!
