Happy Monday and happy first blog post of 2015! Well minus my calendar post, but that was delayed..opps
Anyways, hope everyone had a wonderful break these past few weeks and are ready to start the new week with a clean slate and big goals for the new year! I know I am.
While getting ready for the new year and making goals for not only myself, but the blog as well I realized there was something missing. When I first started Sparkles & Sprinkles I was juggling two internships and a part time job, while job hunting (which is basically another part-time job) and was looking for a way to inspire others during life after college.
To be honest when I started I had no idea what I was doing and figured since most likely only my mom and dad would be reading this, they probably don’t want my advice about growing up. Now that I am coming up on almost a year of blogging (more to come on that later), have received numerous e-mails for career advice and meet for coffee on the regular with people, I figure it’s about time to start sharing some inspiration with everyone and on what better day than Mondays.
Every Monday I will be doing a “A Dash of Sparkle” post featuring anything from quotes to inspire you for the week, things I’ve learned from personal experiences (anything from internship advice to beauty tricks), inspirational interviews with people I have met or anything to get your week started off on the right note!
Sparkles & Sprinkles is all about adding positivity to your everyday life and the “Dash of Sparkle” series is here to help with that:)
For my first post in the series, I’m sharing my favorite quote that I always turned to during my job hunt. I now print this quote for all of my interns when they leave in hopes that it will help them in their next adventure as well.
While looking for the next step in my career, I found myself constantly asking “Why am I going through all of this for a job?”. Here I was working a non-paid internship and two minimum wage paid jobs just to pay rent, while some of my friends were getting promotions already and my brother was buying a house with more bedrooms than people living there. Sure, I could have gotten a job working in my hometown after college doing a 9-5pm marketing gig, but that wasn’t me. I had big dreams of moving to the city and goals of combining my passions with my career. I knew I was on my own and hit many bumps in the road, some much larger than others, but I was willing to do whatever it took to get there. I’m not saying I’m “Living the Dream” by any means (trust me…I still hit bumps daily), but I am saying I knew where I wanted to go and took every direction/road to get to where I am today.

Step back and make a goal for yourself. Whether it’s where you want to be in your career or a personal goal such as to try more new things. Take that goal and don’t stop working for it until it’s accomplished, because you have what it takes now it’s your time to make it happen!
P.S. If you have an inspiring story or advice you would like to be featured in this series, e-mail me! I’d love to share it!
