Wake up, it’s Christmas! Well maybe not quite yet, but it’s time for me to head home to start celebrating. I’m heading back to my parent’s house this morning to see familiar faces and enjoy the holiday traditions with loved ones. It’s been a long holiday season and I’m excited for the celebrations to continue.
Every year we go to Christmas Eve mass as a family before heading over to my Aunt’s house for dinner and presents. We may be a small group, but when you get us all together we talk, eat and drink more than a family triple the size. Sometimes it reminds me of the movie “Christmas Vacation” when they are all sitting at the table talking at the same time and nobody is listening..yup, that’s my family. Small, but very loud.
As my cousins, brother and I continue to grow up over the years, we will never be too old for the traditions. After dinner we all sit around the tree, while my Uncle hands out the presents and then we open them in age order. Of course, we start with the youngest..that’s me;) After presents, we take pictures in front of the tree until our mouths hurt from smiling too much and then head home for the night.
On Christmas morning, my parents, brother and I open presents as a family and then lounge around in our Christmas PJs, while reading instructions on how to work our new gadgets. As you already know, I’m a huge holiday/celebratory person and you can guess where I get it from..my mom. Almost every holiday, my mom buys me some type of holiday piece of clothing. For Christmas we always get Christmas PJs as a “Santa brought this one early” gift. This year, I got the perfect lounge around Christmas morning PJs in red with white polka dots. They are comfortable to stay in all day and warm enough that you don’t need to throw a robe on over.
Our traditions aren’t anything too crazy or out of the oridinary, but they’re special to our family and they are what I look forward to every year. Hope everyone is enjoying the holiday season and Christmas traditions of their own:)
