Planing a wedding
Planning a bridal shower/ bachelorette party for my best friend/cousin
Planning 2-3 events a week for my day job
Running a business and side hustle (aka this blog!)
Yup, this year is a busy one but I wouldn’t have it any other way. I guess you could say I’m addicted to being busy because to be honest, I kind of loose my mind when I don’t have a full day in my planner or at least 4-5 things on my to-do list. Guess this explains my planner obsession.
(Confession: I once left my planner at my office downtown and turned around after getting all the way home to go back and get it. Let’s keep that embarrassing OCD moment between you and I. Sound good? Thanks, I knew I could trust you guys.)
Ok moving on before I embarrass myself too much.
While I do work a day job where I am required to be in the office Monday-Friday, I also do a lot of work/planning at home (with the help of a lot of coffee). I honestly love nothing more than working and planning from the comfort of my home. Cozying up in my favorite new chair from the Kohl’s Accent Chair collections, grabbing my cup of coffee and getting work done with my Rosie girl by my side. This corner has become my new go-to spot in the apartment. I honestly wasn’t sure if we could fit another piece of furniture in our small space but after I found this adorable patterned chair in the Kohl’s Home Selection, I knew I had to make room for it and good thing I did because it’s where I get most of my work done these days.
Now while working from home has its perks, it also has its challenges. There’s distractions left and right, a cozy bed you can stay bundled up in, things to do that weren’t originally on your to-do list (laundry, cooking, cleaning, etc.), puppies to play with;) and errands/a gym right outside your front door that you can find yourself wandering off to. So while working from home is pretty nice, it’s important to remember to stay on track and get your work done. I’m sharing my top 4 tips for being productive when working from home below!
4 Ways to be Productive when Working from Home
Prep the Day Before
Just like everything in life, the first way to get ahead is to prep before hand. If you know you have a work from home day ahead take a few minutes to prep with a to-do list, clean house (so you don’t get distracted) and pre-made meals so you don’t find yourself in the kitchen for hours because you ran out of bread so decided today would be the day to make homemade bread.
Hide all Distractions
Put the phone down. Yes, I’m talking to you. The number one reason people don’t accomplish their to-do lists at home is because there are too many distractions. You may feel like you need to do a load of laundry or make dinner and you can, but first knock out at least two things on your to-do list before taking time to do things you didn’t plan for.
Find Your “Break” Spot
Just like a day at the office, you need a break and not a Facebook scroll at your desk. Take 5-10 minutes to walk away from your laptop and take a moment to yourself in a spot that is separate from your work area. For me, I love being in my family room lounging on my couch and listening to a few songs to take my mind off my to-do list. We recently added a few more items from the Kohl’s Home Decor Collection to complete the room so it’s the perfect mix of homey and refreshing.
Remember There is Always Tomorrow
And as much as we hate to admit it, there is always tomorrow. Don’t stress yourself out if you don’t get through everything but make sure you get through what you needed to get through that day. For me, I mark a star next to the items on my to-do list that absolutely need to get done that day so I know to do those first and not quit working until at least those items are accomplished.

When Steve and I were looking to add a new piece to the place we knew we didn’t want to spend too much since this is only our temporary home but also wanted it to be something durable and fitting for the current space and potential next space. That’s when I discoverd the Kohl’s Home Collection and have since been obsessed! From affordable furniture to trendy and chic decor, they really do have everything. Plus they’re having a major sale from 1/27-2/5 where you get $10 off a $50 home purchase when you use promo code HOME10 and 20% off $75 purchase and 15% off all purchases from 2/2-2/5.
