In Chicago, we live for the summer…literally.
The cold months of winter can be harsh and last a little too long sometimes but when the sun comes out and everyone flocks to their local rooftop bar or park, all of those winter memories seem to disappear.
So whether you’re visiting for a weekend or live here full time and looking for some fun things to do with visitors, I’m rounding up my top things to see/do during the warmer months in the city.
See a Comedy Show
Nothing beats a good laugh and for those days that it’s just a little too chilly or rainy to sit outside, an indoor comedy show is the perfect solution. I recently caught #DateMe, a hilarious OkCupid experiment show written by Robyn Lynne Norris and when I say you’ll laugh so hard you’ll cry, I mean literally. So be sure to bring your tissues for this one!
Catch a Game at Wrigley Field
Whether you’re there for the game or just a hot dog and beer, be sure to check out a Cubs game for the ultimate old school baseball experience.
Movies/Music in the Park
Grab the cheese and wine and head to the park for a movie night under the stars. Find the full rundown for this summer’s films here.
Visit the Centennial Ferris Wheel at the Navy Pier
Looking for the perfect picturesque view of the city? Head to Navy Pier and check out the new Centennial Wheel opening for the first time this summer!
BYOB Sailing
You bring the booze and they’ll bring the boat. Grab a group of friends and head out on Lake Michigan for this fun and intimate evening of sailing. Hurry while offer still lasts here.
Check out a Local Festival
Explore a new neighborhood or the local food scene at one of the many festivals happening around town this summer. Whether you’re in the mood for a beer at the Chicago Ale Fest or some antique shopping at the Randolph Street Market, there is something for everyone! Check out the full list here.
Brunch at a Local Farmer’s Market
The best part of summer is the fresh fruits and vegetables and with an outdoor farmer’s market at almost every corner you turn, your options are endless. If you’re looking for a casual Saturday activity or a grab and go brunch, be sure to swing by one of your local farmer’s market for fresh produce and bites! My favorite is the Green City Market, their crepes station is to die for and if you get there early enough you might catch the Doughnut Vault truck!
Walk/Run the 606
Walk, run, bike, whatever you’re in the mood for, the 606 is the perfect summer activity for showing your out of town visitors the city or just enjoying a day outdoors.
What’s your favorite thing to do in Chicago during the summer? Are you visiting for the weekend or looking for some places to take out of town guests?
My boyfriend’s apartment overlooks Wrigley, so we love going to games! Also super excited to head to the farmer’s market when I get back from vacation 🙂
How fun, such a great location! Yes, always a great time at the farmer’s markets. Plus, they are popping up on what seems like every corner! So many to try and taste at;)
Such a great guide! I am going for the first time in 3 weeks and needed some good recommendations 🙂
