Because we all know we’re on one when the holidays roll around.

There’s something about the holidays and the joy of giving someone a gift while waiting for that moment they open it. In that same moment you feel your bank account slowly giving away something too…your money that is.

So no need to splurge on the holiday decor this year, I’m sharing my top ways to decorate this holiday season for less so you can spend more money on the perfect gifts and more time enjoying the holidays with loved ones.

Paper Everything

Paper is a remarkable thing when it comes to the holidays. It works as gift wrapping, paper garlands, “Dear Santa” letters and well pretty much anything you need. From light bulb garlands to “Be Merry” glitter paper signs, you’ll find the perfect way to deck the halls this season with paper products.

Free Printables

Fancy artwork or free printables? I vote free printables. Change out your everyday frames with a few holiday inspired printables that can be found through google searches or pinterest. Also no need to pay for fancy gift tags at the store this year, you can find just about any type of gift tag you’re looking for as a free printable.

Design Your Own Ornaments

Paint, glitter or mod podge. Pick your materials of choice and decorate your own holiday ornaments for the tree. Paint a scripted letter on the front for a personalize look or add color like this stained glass look above.

From Old to New

Using something you already own is the best way to cut back on spending this season. One of my favorite things to do is dress up my bar cart with a few red and green items such as paper straws, garland and ribbon. I also change my chalkboard walls to holiday quotes and designs for an added touch without any work or cost.

Sub the Tree

Splurging on Christmas trees is so last season and so is cleaning up the pines it drops everyday too. Get creative this year and create a “faux” Christmas tree with mini presents, garland draped on the wall or layers of fringe paper with paper dots as ornaments.

Love these cute holiday decor ideas on a budget, Megan! I just ordered a holiday pillow for my couch. There’s something about a pop of festive color a pillow adds that really brings the whole room together. Don’t you think? (It’s my way of budgeting for holiday decor.) The pillow is actually a pillow + pillow case and I thought what a great way to save space in a tiny apartment–getting different pillow cases instead of different bulky pillows to store. Because where do you store all the holiday decor the other 11 months of the year?! 😛 #tinyapartmentproblems, right? Have a great Tuesday, girl.

Love that idea, how cute and the perfect budget friendly decor! Plus I hear you there with the storage problem. My parents actually were going to give me their old 7 ft tree, but I have no where to keep it after Christmas hah. I’m thinking the paper tree and pillow cases sound like a better idea anyways;) Thanks Kristin, you too!
