Charleston Recap and Traveling To-Dos

Ending a vacation is never fun, but looking back on all the photos and memories you made sure is! I had such a wonderful time in Charleston exploring the city and although I may have hid behind my camera for about 75% of the trip, I would say it was totally worth it for these photos! Between rainbow row, the battery and the restaurant scene this city is one not to miss. I mean how can you not love a city full of pink houses and cobblestone streets.

A few highlights from my trip:

-Saturday Steve and I met up with a good friend from college and explored the bar scene downtown. Warning the bars on King St. get crowded really fast, so be sure to get there early if you are looking to get a table. We ended up at The Rarebit as it had the shortest wait. Little did we know this place was famous for their Moscow Mules, so of course we had to try them. They were amazing, definitely recommend!
-Sunday we hit the downtown shopping scene aka King St. and the market. If you looking for a full day of shopping head to King St. where you will find everything from designer brands to local boutiques.
-Monday we hit the beach and Isle of Palms for some all-you-can-eat crab legs from Red’s Ice House. I’m talking 3 hours of all you can eat…yes, that was non-stop 3 hours of crab cracking and cocktail sauce dipping!
-Tuesday before heading off, we did a little tour of the College of Charleston and went down memory lane as this is where Steve’s parents met:) We also visited Sugar Bakeshop as recommended because you can’t go on vacation and not have dessert. This little hidden shop was a true gem as the cupcakes were so good we may have ordered a dozen.

Overall it was an amazing trip(minus the rain, but that didn’t stop us) and hard to say goodbye when it was time to go. There were so many things I still wanted to see you and do so I guess that means I’ll have to visit again soon!

Heading off on a vacation soon? Check out below for my traveling bucket list ideas for your next trip!

Traveling Bucket List: 5 Things to Do in a New Town

1. Don’t plan anything for one day. Take a break from planning and take a day to explore the new town without any goals or destinations in mind. Walk in and out of places and down streets that are off the beaten path (don’t worry you can use google maps to get you back).
2. Order the Special. Try a new restaurant that is well known in the town and instead of looking through the menu ask the waiter what they are known for or recommend. You most likely can never go wrong with this option.
3. Be a complete tourist and snap away.  One of the best parts about traveling is the photos and memories you have to look back on after the trip. While in Charleston I didn’t go anywhere without my camera around my neck and may have dragged Steve with me to find all the colorful windows in the town to take pictures of. He was a trooper as I may have taken us in a big circle two or three times to make sure I didn’t miss any:)
4. Find the hidden gems. Ask a local you meet on the streets or someone from the hotel what they recommend to do in the city. These are where you find your true hidden gems of places to go and things to see. Maybe it’s a speak easy hidden underground downtown or a little cupcake shop with mouth watering cupcakes!
5. Step out of your comfort zone. To be honest I’m not a big history buff, but when you’re in a city where you are surrounded by so much history it’s almost a given to look into it. Luckily, I had Steve’s dad (Charleston history guru) with me to explain every building and monument along our walks. I ended up falling in love with all the history behind the city and want to go back and take a few tours to explore more!
Have a nice weekend! Anyone going out of town soon? If so, where to?
Already looking to book another flight;)
