When to Hand Write a Thank You for Bloggers
Call me old fashion but I’m stuck on pen and paper days. While everyone has their icals with their schedules on their phones or their alarms that go off for their next meeting, I’m over here like “Ok meeting at 2pm, I’ll be sure to pencil that in”. There’s something about having a physical form of paper in front of me and writing out my to-do lists or penciling things into my planner that I can’t seem to get away from. I know the world is going digital but my planner will always be color coordinated and pen written as well as my thank you cards.

At my day job, I manage the internship program (funny how life really does come full circle after being an intern for what felt like eternities). Anyways, I remember when I was first applying for jobs and would get turned down just by my resume. “We’re looking for someone with more experience” oh man, if only I had a dollar for every time I heard those words I wouldn’t have even needed to get a job in the first place. I would always reply saying “Just let me interview, I’ll prove to you that I am the right fit”. It was an attempt but while that didn’t go anywhere and those words “more experience” became nails on a chalkboard, I told myself when I get on the other side of applications I will never deny someone the chance to interview. Seemed like a great idea until I just wrapped up my 23rd interview this month….ay yi yi.
Along with all of these interviews comes lots of follow up thank yous or no follow up thank you..tisk tisk. Some send me an e-mail literally from the cab home from the interview, some send it the next week claiming “it didn’t send” and some mail a handwritten thank you. While any thank you is much appreciated, a hand written one goes a long way in my eyes. When someone takes the time to sit down and write you a personal note and send it off, it shows they really are dedicated to getting the job.

When starting this blog I always struggled with knowing when to write a thank you. At first I sent them to anyone who worked with me on a post or at an event. I found myself making daily trips to Papyrus to keep up, so I thought I might be over doing it. So I made a few guidelines for when to hand write a thank you versus e-mail one.

When To Write a Thank You

1.
If a company gifted you an item for a large value with no contract
commitment to post about it, I always think its nice to send a thank
you.
2. If you work with a venue or vendor to host an event, anyone who helped plan or work the event.
3. When a company provides you with amenities such as a weekend trip or hotel services.
4. If you work with the company on quite a few posts, I think it’s nice to send a thank you every so often.
5. If a company send you a gift unexpectedly because they knew something big was happening in your life.

Have any blogging thank you tips of your own to share? I’m always looking for ways to show the amazing people I meet and work with how much I appreciate them so please share below:)

These are great tips, I never thought about sending a thank you to a company that sends me product. I do send a pretty hand written thank you note to every single one of my design clients after I close their file, even the Edesign clients who I never meet in person.
