Chicago Guide: Wicker Park

Wicker Park? Where’s that?

If you’re not from Chicago or familiar with the Chicago neighborhoods you may have never heard of Wicker Park. It’s a neighborhood a little southwest of downtown and a little hidden gem that most locals like to explore. From the delicious dining options (by far where some of my favs are!) to the endless shopping boutiques, Wicker Park is a must see/do when in town.

Rounding up my top things to see/do, eat and drink in the cozy western neighborhood.

606-trail

To-Do/See

Run the 606: One of my favorite running trails in Chicago. With it’s elevated pathway, it has the best views of the city. Whether it’s a casual walk or an early morning run, this is a must do when in the neighborhood.

Boutique shop along Damen Ave: Empty your piggybanks, it’s time to go shopping. Stroll along Damen Ave for some of Chicago’s top shopping boutiques.

Admire the victorian style homes down Hoyne Ave.: Looking for a casual activity? Admire some of the most beautiful victorian homes built in the 1800s during a walk down Hoyne Ave.

nando-milano

To-Eat

Nando Milano Trattoria : There’s pasta and then there’s homemade Nando Milano pasta. This cozy Italian destination is the perfect date night spot or dinner with the family. Plus, their patio is dog friendly and they have whole wheat pasta options on the menu!

Big Star : Have a margarita..or two at this a la carte taco joint. Grab a drink from the bar and sit outside on their patio while enjoying some of the best tacos in town.

Bongo Room : Brunch may just be the most important meal of the day and Bongo Room knows how to brunch. From decadent pancakes to red velvet waffles, this place is by far one of my top brunch spots in Chicago.

Mindy’s Hot Chocolate : Your meal isn’t complete without something sweet (and chocolatey). Grab a glass of some of the best hot chocolate you’ll ever taste and cozy up in the warm and inviting dessert destination that serves some of the most innovative and delicious sweets.

the-violet-hour

To-Drink

The Bedford : Take a step back in time and enjoy a Gold Rush cocktail at this destination. From the architectural history to the endless list of spirits, this is the perfect before dinner spot or weekday destination after a long day at the office.

Bangers & Lace : Known for their brunch but more so their brunch drinks. This is a must try for that morning after a late night. With their “brunch beers” and variety of bloody marys, you’re sure to be good as new in no time after your start your Sunday here.

Ada Street : Talk about a hidden gem. This cocktail destination may be located off the beaten path but it’s definitely worth the multiple U-turns it will take to find it. From the candlelit atmosphere to the creative cocktails, this hidden cocktail destination is perfect for date night or drinks with the girls.

The Violet Hour : Some bars have endless beer options, but The Violet Hour has endless cocktail options (I’m talking a menu page full of them, 20+!). Grab the girls and head to this cocktail lounge for a night of catching up and sipping your way through the menu.
