Top 7 Uses for Coconut Oil

Coconut oil, the greatest thing since sliced bread. Don’t believe me? Oh, just wait.

This past weekend Steve and I were out to dinner with a few other couples just drinking beer, watching hockey and talking about oil pulling…wait, what?

Yes, you hear that right…oil pulling.

At one point in the conversation I remember thinking “how old are we again,” “Are we really giving each other advice on ways to stay healthy and look young?”. I mean I already thought I was “grandma” status enough when yawning at the bar at 9:30pm but now we’re talking about coconut oil and oil pulling…

Someone please take me back to 21 when I could go out all night, come home and drunk eat half a pizza and wake up feel refreshed and good to go.

Man, what three years can do to you, but back to the oil pulling conversation.

After hearing our friends talk about all the amazing benefits of coconut oil, Steve and I found ourselves swinging by Target on the way home to get a jar. The conversation went a little something like this “hey, mind if we swing by Target? We’re out of toilet paper”, “Sure, what do you think about grabbing a jar of coconut oil while we’re there too?” (it was like we just saw a new piece of furniture for the apartment and needed to make sure we both agreed on it before purchasing) “ok, yeah let’s try it”.

So we took the leap and bought the coconut oil and all I can say is this stuff is more addicting than sugar. I mean this stuff does everything, it works tiny miracles for your body, skin, home, cooking, I mean you name it and it does it!

So while I’m still experimenting with most uses, I’m sharing my top ones I’m already using it for below!

coconut oil

Creamer in your coffee.

Skip the milk and try coconut oil in your morning cup of joe. Ir even has a slightly sweet taste to it so you may even skip the sugar too!

Replacement for Butter.

Cut the fat in half when going to cook those scrambled eggs and coat the pan with coconut oil instead of butter. Works just as well in baking recipes too!

Makeup Remover.

Even the waterproof mascara can’t retain from this all natural makeup remover. Rub a tablespoon amount in your hand to melt and rub on face to remove makeup, rinse with water and dry with a towel.

Face Lotion.

Looking for baby smooth skin again? Use coconut oil in replace of your daily moisturizer. If you have sensitive skin like me and are hesitant to put it on your face, I also discovered this coconut visible repair oil from Advanced Clinicals that works miracles!

Breath Freshener.

Ah, the ever so famous term of oil pulling. Place a tablespoon of the oil in your mouth (you’ll get use to the texture/flavor after a few times) and swish around like mouthwash while in the shower or for 10-15 minutes and then spit out and brush your teeth as usual. This not only freshens your breath by killing bacteria in your mouth but it also helps with teeth whitening and removal of toxins from your face. I told you, I would sell you on this stuff;)

Makeup Brush Cleaner.

Instead of paying $15 dollars a bottle for something with one purpose, melt a little coconut oil and soak your brushes in it to clean them.

Get Rid of Cellulite.

And if I didn’t sell you before, I think I may have now. Yes, that’s right ladies this miracle worker even reduces cellulite. Rub a little on desired areas daily as you would lotion to reduce visible appearance of cellulite and stretch marks.

Are you a coconut oil user? What’s your favorite way to use it?

I love coconut oil! My favorite use is as a moisturizing hair mask! I rub it through my hair, tie a plastic bag or shower cap over it for a half hour, and shampoo it out – it makes your hair so silky and shiny (and it helps it grow faster). Can’t wait to try all of the uses you mentioned – especially as a coffee creamer! 🙂

Yes, definitely and I was the same way. I have very sensitive skin so I was hesitant to put it on my face but have been doing so for about 2 weeks now and so far, nothing but great results! Let me know if you try it and what you think:)
